Dr. Frank Lichtenberger, MD, PhD, is a board-certified Allergist-Immunologist specializing in complex connective tissue and immune disorders, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Dr. Lichtenberger completed his allergy and immunology fellowship in Mast Cell Biology at the NIH Laboratory of Allergic Diseases, which pioneered much of the modern science about Mast Cell Diseases. During this time at the NIH, Dr. Lichtenberger developed a deep understanding of Systemic Mastocytosis, MCAS, HaT, and other immunological conditions. Both at the NIH and in the years since, he has been among a small number of clinicians treating MCAS before it was widely recognized. Dr. Lichtenberger is also the author of Allergic to Life: How the Human Body Rejects the Modern World.

Dr. Lichtenberger's practice centers on the intersection of rheumatologic, immunologic, and allergic complications frequently seen in EDS patients. He dedicates a substantial portion of his clinical time to managing difficult cases, including mast cell disorders such as systemic mastocytosis and MCAS that commonly occur alongside Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, complex primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, and intricate multisystem presentations that have eluded diagnosis elsewhere.

Dr. Lichtenberger brings over 20 years of robust clinical and research experience to his practice. He earned his MD and PhD from The Ohio State University, studying the pathways of chronic inflammation in the Medical Scientist Program, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern, and his allergy and immunology fellowship at the NIH Laboratory of Allergic Diseases. He is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has served as an immunology consultant for the NIH's Undiagnosed Disease Program, developed teaching protocols for anaphylaxis, and is a distinguished member of the AAAAI Mast Cell Disorders committee.

Dr. Lichtenberger sees patients exclusively via telehealth and is currently licensed to treat patients who are located in North Carolina and Florida.

"After completing a fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the National Institutes of Health, I entered into independent practice, but I still bring a rigorous academic approach to patient care. I try to learn from every patient. I believe each visit is an opportunity to listen, learn, and improve my approach. " - Dr. L
