Expanding Access to Expert EDS and MCAS Care in Pennsylvania

The EDS Clinic is pleased to announce that we are now serving patients throughout Pennsylvania through telehealth. Pennsylvania patients can currently request care with Dr. Frank Lichtenberger or Dr. Jim Harris, and we are working to grow our team to serve even more people across the state.

This expansion builds on our commitment to Pennsylvania’s EDS community. Dr. Harris is scheduled to present “MCAS in the EDS/HSD Patient” at the 2026 Penn State EDS and HSD Patient Engagement and Global Collaboration Research Symposium. Dr. Harris also previously spoke at The Ehlers-Danlos Society’s 2024 Global Learning Conference in Philadelphia.

Through patient care, professional education, and community engagement, we hope to improve access to informed, compassionate care throughout Pennsylvania.

Specialized Care From Home

The EDS Clinic’s telehealth model enables eligible patients to meet with experienced physicians without traveling long distances. This can be especially valuable for people whose pain, fatigue, allergic symptoms, dysautonomia, or other health concerns make travel difficult.

Depending on the provider and each patient’s individual needs, The EDS Clinic evaluates and manages conditions that may include:

  • Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS)
  • Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS)
  • Hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD)
  • Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS)
  • Hereditary alpha tryptasemia (HaT)
  • POTS and other forms of dysautonomia
  • Histamine intolerance
  • Complex allergic disease
  • Immunodeficiency
  • Other related multisystem conditions

Patients in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Hershey, Erie, Allentown, Scranton, State College, Lancaster, York, and communities across Pennsylvania can request an appointment with a physician currently serving the state.

Appointments are available to eligible patients who are physically located in Pennsylvania at the time of their visit. Provider availability and state licensure may change, so patients should confirm their current options when scheduling.

Meet Our Pennsylvania Care Team

Dr. Frank Lichtenberger

Frank Lichtenberger, MD, PhD, is a board-certified Allergist-Immunologist with more than 20 years of clinical and research experience. He specializes in complex immune and allergic conditions, including MCAS, HaT, immunodeficiencies, recurrent anaphylaxis, and multisystem conditions associated with EDS and HSD.

Dr. Lichtenberger earned his MD and PhD through the Medical Scientist Training Program at The Ohio State University. After completing an Internal Medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, he pursued an Allergy and Immunology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health Laboratory of Allergic Diseases.

At the NIH, he focused on mast cell biology and developed extensive experience with systemic mastocytosis, MCAS, HaT, and other immunological conditions. He also served as a consultant for the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Program and helped develop educational protocols for anaphylaxis.

Long before MCAS became widely recognized, Dr. Lichtenberger was evaluating and treating patients with mast cell disorders. This experience makes him especially well suited to care for patients with complex symptoms involving multiple body systems.

Dr. Jim Harris

Jim Harris, MD, is the Medical Director of The EDS Clinic and is board certified in Allergy and Immunology and Pediatrics. He has treated thousands of patients with EDS, MCAS, POTS, and related conditions.

Dr. Harris’s clinical work focuses on mast cell activation disease and its intersection with EDS, HSD, POTS, gastrointestinal symptoms, histamine intolerance, migraine, and other complex presentations.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, where he also completed his Pediatrics residency and Allergy and Immunology fellowship. During his career, he founded the Center for Research at the South Bend Clinic and conducted or participated in nearly 300 clinical research studies.

Dr. Harris is also committed to improving professional education and multidisciplinary understanding of EDS, HSD, MCAS, and related conditions.
